Our client suffered an injury at work due to defective manual handling procedures. He client was asked to lift and move several roller road links within a wash bay. This job would usually need a number of people but our client was only working with one colleague. He had asked his employer for more assistance but this was refused.
After a period of time manually handling the roller road linkages our client began to experience pain in his back. In fact he sustained a slipped disk which impacted upon the sciatic nerve and caused him severe pain. We were able to recover personal injury compensation for him of £5,500.

Our client was employed as an engineer and had gone to another company to pick up an order of two mild steel sheets for his employer. When he arrived he was taken into a warehouse by an employee. The sheets of metal were large, thick and heavy and were stacked on racking.
The accident occurred as the employee removed the first sheet from the racking and passed it to our client. As he was placing the metal sheet on the floor, the employee proceeded to get the second sheet off the racking but as he did so the metal sheet slipped out of his grip and fell towards our client. As the sheet was sliding towards his head he instinctively put out his right hand to protect himself and as he did so the metal sheet sliced through his left index finger.  He sustained a severed tendon and nerve in his left finger that required surgery. We were able to recover personal injury compensation for him of just over £15,600.

Our client was a rear seat passenger in a car travelling at between 60-70mph on a wet road along a narrow, twisting country lane. Our client and the front seat passenger both expressed alarm at the speed being driven and asked the driver to slow down. Almost immediately after the request to slow down, the driver lost control of the vehicle on a right hand bend and the car skidded and then collided with a wall. Our client had to be rescued through the roof of the car by paramedics and firemen. The driver was subsequently prosecuted for drink driving.
She sustained shock, concussion, lacerations, bruising and swelling to the right side of her face. She suffered a seven inch cut across her forehead and a broken wisdom tooth. She also sustained a whiplash injury. Although she had several injuries none of them were serious and this was reflected in the level of personal injury compensation we recovered for her of £5,500. Her compensation was also assessed at a lower figure due to a degree of contributory negligence for not wearing a seat belt.

Our client was walking along an aisle in a supermarket when her heel slipped on a grape on the floor which she had not seen. She was not in the fruit and vegetable section and so not expecting debris on the floor. As a result of slipping on the grape her right foot shot out from under her and she fell heavily on her right side and landed on the wire basket she had been carrying in her hand.
She sustained soft tissue and ligament damage to her right shoulder, right elbow and wrist, and bruising to her ribs and right thigh. The pain was so bad it caused her to become depressed. We were able to recover personal injury compensation for her of £25,700.

Our client was riding his motorbike between 2 lanes of slow moving traffic on a dual carriageway when a cyclist tried to cross the road in front of him. The cyclist was listening to an MP3 player and could not hear our client’s approach, and he failed to look to see if it was safe for him to cross the road. Our client had to take evasive action and in doing so fell from his motorbike.
He sustained several injuries, the most serious by far was a broken elbow.  The fracture did heal, but despite physiotherapy treatment he was left with a 20% reduction in movement of the elbow, which will be permanent. We were able to recover personal injury compensation for him of just under £11,500.
