Do I have to have insurance, how much will it cost and do I have to pay?
Why do I need legal expenses insurance?
If you already have insurance cover in place, such as with your household or car insurance, there will be no need for you to take out any additional policy. If this is necessary, the insurance premium does not become due until the end of a successful claim, when it will be paid by your opponent or their insurers and not by you.
If the claim is lost the premium is paid by the policy itself, along with any expenses incurred by us and your opponent’s legal costs (if awarded). Whatever the outcome of the claim, you will not have to pay the premium yourself so long as you have co-operated with us throughout the case.
Insurance premiums vary depending on the type of claim and the degree of risk the insurance company is taking in backing the claim, however for a road accident the premium is likely to be around £367.50, and for other types of accidents (eg at work) the premium is likely to be around £899.

Insurers often try to sell accident claims to their own panel solicitors and often charge them over £600 for each case. They may try to suggest that you must use their panel solicitors, but this is not correct. You are free to decide which solicitors you want to handle your claim. Under our service, provided you co-operate fully throughout the claim, you will have nothing to pay whether you win or lose, and if you win you keep 100% of the compensation recovered.
