Do I have to have insurance, how much will it cost and do I have to pay?
If you already have insurance cover in place, there will be no need for you to take out any additional policy. If this is necessary, the insurance premium does not become due until the end of a successful claim, when it will be paid by your opponent or their insurers and not by you. If the claim is lost the premium is paid by the policy itself, along with any expenses incurred by us and your opponent’s legal costs (if awarded). Whatever the outcome of the claim, you will not have to pay the premium yourself. Insurance premiums vary depending on the type of claim and the degree of risk the insurance company is taking in backing the claim, however for an accident on the road the premium is likely to be around £367.50, and for other types of accidents (eg at work) the premium is likely to be around £899.
